It seems just like yesterday everyone was gathering in the athletic parking lot for a little tailgate to celebrate being seniors.

Some people have said that senior year is the easiest year of all high school. 2nd semester might be, but certainly not first. After all, there’s something called college apps. Unfortunately, this happens to take over my life at certain times.

To be honest, I don’t really know what to expect from college.  Everyone says it’s the best 4 years of your life, the time where you define yourself as a person.

But what if I start to get doubts about the college I eventually choose to go to? I think about this at times. Good college, but maybe the life there isn’t as great as another one. Or what if I end up not liking the certain major that I picked?

I guess that this is the point where I have to place my entire faith in God. Whatever college I do end up going to is for His glory.

Now this brings up something else. What exactly is God’s will for me then? How am I supposed to know this? Sometimes I find myself saying ‘oh this and that didn’t turn out as expected. It’s ok. It’s all God’s will’. But did I actually try to accomplish whatever it was I was working towards? Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” If we want to know what God’s will is for us on a certain thing, then we have to ask God.  I can’t say that it’s God’s will that i didn’t happen to make a certain team when in fact i didn’t really prepare for the tryout. It’s like knocking on a door. If i knock and it’s not opened, then obviously God doesn’t want me going through that door. Same thing with things here on this earth. If I try my best to get into a school but I end up getting rejected, then it’s God’s will for me not to go there.

I am not my own, for I have been made new.

I just randomly get headaches here and there. Most of the time on Sundays. Hate it. I wonder what exactly causes it…

But what exactly makes “good” music? Is there some sort of rubric that people grade from to see if a song is “good music” or “bad music”?

What I’ve found out is that no matter what, there is no such thing as bad music. There are just different tastes in music. For instance, I love the band August Burns Red. Now I consider this “good” music. There are probably some metalcore fans that aren’t big fans of ABR. So who’s right? Is ABR a “good” band or “bad” band? ABR is just a band. Whether or not these guys make good music or not is all about opnion.

Something that’s also been on my mind is song structure. I’ve written about this before, but it keeps coming up in my mind. How come all of the catchy songs are so generic? I mean 1, 5, 6, 4 is all they do and BAM instant single. It sort of pisses me off sometimes. The artist can have no talent whatsoever; all he has to do is play those 4 chords over and over and he’ll have fans all over him. So why does this happen? Well probably because it just so happens that the general “taste” of people in this time is simple, catchy, very instrumentally novice songs.

Don’t get me wrong, I do happen to listen to some songs that are molded by today’s mainstream. It’s cool for like a week and then I realize just how untalented some of the musicians are and I scrap the stuff. For those that happen to stay, it’s not because that everyone is listening to them, but rather something original about the stuff. Sure, they’re probably molded, but they have something that makes them stand out.

It’s a shame that sometimes the most talented, original, and versitle musicians don’t get the respect they deserve. Future of Forestry is a band that can fit in about any instrument perfectly. Paul Waggoner is probably one of the best guitarists I know of, capable of playing anything from breakdowns to southern style wah solos to jazz riffs, and we have some people who are saying that guitarists who only know how to power chord as “amazing”.

I wonder what the mainstream taste in music in 10 years will be like. In the 1990′s noone could have guessed that we would end up where we are today, with cheesy easy songs and random rap/hip hop beats with crap lyrics all jammed into the mainstream radio.

I’m not saying that I’m the person who is never in this situation, but at least I’ll give the position my team wants me to play a shot. I mean, if it doesn’t work then ditch it right?

The problem is that sometimes people just have egos that are too big. They don’t want to give up their own image of themselves for something that they may or may not know is better for them. They aren’t willing to go with the way they know is more beneficial to the team. They keep telling themselves that they are someone different than they really are. They let all advice just flow out the other ear.

The person I’m talking about is not a bad kid. But sometimes he is just SO unwilling to give up what looks cool and do his job. He’s got such an advantage in a certain area, but he doesn’t use it. What a waste.

On a different note, I really need to get started on some school stuff. Pretty much all I’ve been doing is loping around doing nothing at all.

Jr. year is officially over now.  Wow. Seriously, where the heck did everyone go? It seems just like yesterday that I was still ready to take on all the AP tests, ACT, SAT’s all that fun stuff. 3/4 done with high school. Can’t believe it.

The past few weeks I’ve discovered just how lazy I can sometimes get. I mean, I have pretty much no homework, we’re doing nothing in class, yet i still end up going to bed real late staying up doing random things. Probably should change that…

w/e I’m going to bed right now. We’ll see how this wordpress thing goes.
